Customizing Our SoftwareBy Will Bontrager Customizing existing software can save a lot of money Creating custom software is expensive. The programmer or programming team needs to be paid for their time and expertise. Of course, programmer's have to be paid whether it's custom software or software for commercial sales to the public. The difference is the fees are applied to one instance of the software, when it's custom and, for commercial software, can be averaged over however many copies the software is reasonably expected to sell. Financially, customized software has the best of both. Here is how it works. Commercial software is purchased and a programmer hired to customize it, not necessarily in that order. Talk to the programmer first, find out if what you want is easily doable. Unless the customization is extensive, or the software code is unclear, the time the programmer spends customizing existing software is less, probably far less, than would have been spent making a completely custom program. Consider hiring the programmer who initially wrote the software to do the customization. The creator of the software generally requires less time to study the software and, because many or all of the software's idiosyncrasies are known, is less likely to inadvertently introduce bugs. We are available to customize our own publicly available software to your specifications In addition to the free, WS2, and Master Series software, any of which may be customized, we will also consider customizing software created for our own use. Examples are temporary download links, short URL redirects, and PayPal payments software. The idea is to get you what you need and our software out there and used at a minimum of cost. Click here when you have an idea of how one of our software titles could be customized to fit your exact needs. March 17, 2008 Please note: Articles on this website are presented "as is".
