Phil Tanny Saved My HineyBy Will Bontrager Last week, I was working on a project that required reading the width and height of images that web site visitors would upload. Several really good Perl modules are available that will do all kinds of neat things with images, one of which is reporting their width and height. They are huge modules, however, with many dependent files. Trouble was, the hosting company did not have any of those installed. I remembered a post made at the Master Series Q and A Forum some months earlier. Our good friend Phil Tanny had submitted a post about the Image::Size Perl module. The Image::Size module is relatively small. It does one thing, and does it well reporting the width and height of images. The hosting company was happy to install this small module in lieu of a huge image processing module. The resulting CGI program is fast, compared to what it would be using one of the other image processing modules. The client is happy. I am happy. And I say "thank you" to Phil Tanny.
