The Conception and Birth of Hotlink ALARM

The story starts at 8:08 GMT on Thursday, November 8, 2007.

That is the exact time a serendipitous post was made on The Internet Marketing Circle forum. It lead to a joint venture that resulted in Hotlink ALARM.

Hotlink ALARM is image theft prevention software designed to thwart image hotlinking except by authorized domains. Various things can be done to the web page where unauthorized hotlinking is taking place.

1. Substitute the hotlinked image on the thief's web page with a custom image.

2. Link the substitute image back to the real product site.

3. Make an alert box come up on the thief's web page with a custom message.

4. Insert custom text straight into the thief's web page.

5. Automatically redirect the browser away from the thief's web page, to the real product site.

Protection is site-wide or set up for individual images.
