Visual ThesaurusBy Will Bontrager The Visual Thesaurus is software I use a lot. That's not to say I come up with the best words to express what I want to say, but they sure are better than what I would have come up with on my own! Today, I found out from a friend that the publishers of Visual Thesaurus have an affiliate program. So I signed up. Visual Thesaurus only pays 10%, but a couple bucks is a couple bucks, right? Probably all experienced article writers would agree a thesaurus is necessary, a must-have tool, for effective writing. It is not dispensable. A physical printed thesaurus is good to have. An electronic version is good, too. If I had to choose one or the other, I would take the electronic version especially after seeing Visual Thesaurus running on a friend's computer. When I saw that, I went right out and bought my own, the desktop version, so I can run it on my own computer. (They also have an online subscription version.) Visual Thesaurus is so cool. The display is 3-D (the desktop version, maybe not the online version) and can be "turned" by dragging the mouse, meaning the background words turn toward the front, and the front toward the back. Click on a word in the display, and you get a display for that word. Definitions are on the right, in scrolling text boxes if too many to fit. Similar to, a form of, and other relationships are displayed. Be in control of your words. June 5, 2006 Please note: Articles on this website are presented "as is".
