Dear WebMaster, What's New on Your Site?
It seems difficult enough to add new content consistently to your site, but letting people know "What's New" when they visit your site is another little chore to manage.
To make this chore a bit easier, we've pulled together a bundle of goodies for you. (Download below.) We call it "The What's-New-Tamer Package" (aka WNT pack).
Inventory and Instructions follow:
Step one: Decide where a dedicated "What's New" area on your website should be. This could be a page in itself, or perhaps a section of a page.
Step two: Install the "Master Site News" cgi script from "The WNT Pack". This handy little gem lets you edit your webpage, or a section of a webpage, from a form in your browser. The content you put in Master Site News can be displayed in any of three ways:
Within a web page using Server Side Includes (SSI).
Inside a popup window.
As its own, separate web page.
Complete instructions for this easy-to-use script are included.
Step Three: Add a link to your What's New area in your navigation area. Hopefully you use SSI to manage your navigation area. If not, read about SSI in the article enclosed in "The WNT Pack".
Step Four: Update your "What's New RSS feed" with the Personal RSS File Maker enclosed in "The WNT Pack".
Plan C: Use the (enclosed in "The WNT Pack") cookie and JavaScript method for adding "New Link Markers" to your navigation or other links.
Enjoy the package. Download the zip file by clicking this button.
