Subject: Any way to have a usuable Archive? Masterboard's Archiving is useles to visitors (unless Webmaster wants to extract some messages to post on a separate webpage). In an attempt to make a useable Archive of old messages, I created another board, eliminated the post/reply message submission lines in the MasterBoard.cgi script (so people could not respond), configured the Admin and then copied the active Board's MBDate into the test MBData. It did not work! ( http://essiac-info.org/cgi-bin/test/MasterBoard.cgi has the Forum header but no messages. I'm baffled why the MBdata lines copied from the active forum MBdata log did not show up in the test forum.. So,Will, is it possible to to edit the script so it won't have submission capability but still work using transferred MBData? Or is it simply impossible to have a usable "Archive" with the MasterBoard script? |

In response to: Any way to have a usuable Archive? The archival of posts feature was made available in anticipation of features to use it. This meant that folks using the board could archive their posts and have them evailable when the anticipated features became ready for installation. The archive view feature is almost done, just a day or two now, maybe even later tonight, we're in final testing. When you see this board with links to archives, then the upgrade is ready for distribution and you can pick up a copy at Another feature we had planned was an archive search, but we've decided to put that feature only in the pro version (which is also nearly ready). The reason copying Archive files to MBdata files didn't work for you is because the script uses a central database (named "MBposts") to organize posts and replys. Without that file, the script won't find the live posts. |

In response to: Any way to have a usuable Archive? http://essiac-info.org/cgi-bin/test/MasterBoard.cgi shows the threads and replies now, it needed the active board's GlobalData.txt to activate it. Right now the active board has only 32 threads but my concern is that someday the board may grow too long -- is there a limit to how many threads it can take? I was also concerned that someday the webmaster may need to temporarily stop people from posting and eliminating the post/reply submission ability of the script seems to have done that. Will, your MasterBoard is so superior to any other Forum available, I hope you do not mind my experimenting with the script. Do you have any comments or advice? |

In response to: Any way to have a usuable Archive? Amazing -- we must have been writing at the same time, when I went back to your Forum after posting my message just now, your reply was there! I am delighted that you are working on the archive view feature and will be watching your Forum for the upgrade. It's great that you will have a "Pro version" soon for sale, it will be well worth whatever price you set on it! |

In response to: Any way to have a usuable Archive? Feel free to modify the script's functionality as you wish. And thank you for the kudos! The archive view is done. I kinda hurried it up when I got your post :) |
