Subject: Banned Words Don't Seem to be Working Completely Hello, I keep getting the same type of spammed form entry (example below). I have included words such as: --end in my banned word list and the same spammer still seems to be successful. Is there something else I can do? --------------------------------------- Name: safety consultant jobs safety consultant jobs <SNIP> --end of messae |

In response to: Banned Words Don't Seem to be Working Completely I guess it depends on what software you're using, Dianne. Try not using any angle brackets in your word list. Some software treats angle brackets like HTML tags. Some even remove the entire tags, then scan for banned words on what's left. Also try using only alphabetical characters. Some software ignores non-alphabetical characters, and some remove them before scanning. Will |

In response to: Banned Words Don't Seem to be Working Completely Interesting... The main part of the spammed message did not come through in the forum- it showed as http://www.milehighdesign.net/spam_screenshot.jpg I am using the Master Form V4 for software. |

In response to: Banned Words Don't Seem to be Working Completely The SNIP was my edit, Dianne, because I didn't think it prudent to post the links on my site. (more in a moment) |

In response to: Banned Words Don't Seem to be Working Completely Okay, for V4 you'll need to use words that do not occur inside HTML tags. It's a fight to choose words the spammers might use yet your legitimate users won't. I'll be upgrading Master Form V4 shortly to optionally block anything with an anchor tag or "[url" text (the latter is often used in forums to designate a URL). This type of spam is automatically submitted with software on someone's machine. Some of the spammers are getting better and better, varying their text and automatically checking for form page updates. Soon I hope to come out with an automatic submission blocker that doesn't require those ugly images with stretched text on them. Don't know exactly when that will be, but hopefully soon. It will be availble for your software. We already have the rudaments of the blocker in place and working with In-Form™ - which hasn't cracked yet. Will |
